Milano in the holidays

Here it is, last post of 2013 and it couldn't be more Christmassy than this! 3 days in festive Milan with family for our Christmas shopping!

As you already know Milan is an industrial city and the capital of fashion, so don't expect to see many sights and touristy things in the city center and especially in winter time. But be prepared to be blown away by beautiful and quite expensive window displays!

Lets get started then my lovelies! A short list of what to do in the city with limited time in your hands!

Getting in town
-We arrived at Milan Malpensa airport which is about 45 minutes from the city center. There is a shuttle bus leaving every 20 minutes from the airport and drops you off at Milan Central train station. From there it is fairly easy to find your destination. Prices for the shuttle bus are 10 euro for a one way ticket and 16 euro for a round trip.

In town
- What you must see and cannot avoid is the Cathedral  known to everyone as the Duomo. A magnificent structure in the center of the city which is definitely worth a visit.
-Visit the Galleria Emanuele Vittorio, the oldest mall in the world! Right next to the Duomo this shopping arcade will surely amaze you at night time!
-Shop Shop Shop! Locating the stores and shopping malls in Milan is no hard job as they are literally everywhere! Designer brands from Louis Vuitton and Prada to Balenciaga and Givenchy all lined up together in beautifully decorated streets. Even if you don't buy something you must visit the window displays!
-Now if your budget is for something less expensive you can always visit Corso buenos aires for a little something cheaper!
-If you have time locate the outlet malls and grab yourself a good bargain!
-Christmas Markets in Piazza Duomo is a pleasent break from the high end brands around the Duomo. Try local delicacies, sweets, cheese and wine and take something with you as a suvenir.
-Visit Teatro alla Scala and if you're a big fan of the opera go ahead and book a ticket.
-Art lover or not line up at the museum and visit Leonardo da Vinci's painting ''The Last Supper''.

Eat and drink
-We all know what Italy is famous for, pizza and pasta! Every foodies paradise including myself!
-Try Mozzarella, Parmesan, Prosciutto, salami and savour the flavors.
-Local wine.
-Have an espresso, i warn you, its strong!

Surely a great escape, this city is recommended for those who love good food, great shopping and hectic city life.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!! Spend it with people you love and enjoy your time!! Sending love and wishing happy travels to everyone! xxx

24 hours in Dusseldorf

First thing that hits you, while landing in Dusseldorf in December, is the COLD!! But, having only 24 hours available to explore the city, we were willing to leave that detail behind! As it is a short distance city we were able to discover everything easily since everything is within a 10 minute walk.
So here it is the must do list if you're ever in Dusseldorf  near Christmas time.

What to do:
- Start by visiting the Rhine river. Walk down the promenade and appreciate the view even in the freezing cold! If it's not too chilly for you take a cruise tour down the river. Beer on the boat is unlimited!
- Get lost in the alleys of the old part of town, Altstadt, also known as the longest bar in the world. As you might have guessed this is where the city's nightlife is.
- Visit the famous Koningsallee shopping street and spoil yourself! (hope your credit cards are full)
- Definitely visit every single Christmas market you can find! They are literally everywhere and sell everything, from food and drinks to Christmas ornaments and crafts.

Eat and drink:
- Every type of sausage you can! In a bun, in curry sauce..
- Drink mulled wine and hot chocolate from the Christmas markets. (you can keep the mug as a souvenir)
- Must try the local Alt beer! There are five microbreweries in the old town.
- Schnitzels and a pretzels, this is after all the place to eat them!!

So here you have it my dearest traveler, Dusseldorf in just 24 hours! If you're planning a visit soon i hope you get wonderfully lost in this beautiful city!! x

Pozar Thermal Baths

This little corner of heaven is located near Loutraki in the capital of Pella. Surrounded by wild green vegetation and natural waterfalls it is an amazing sample of nature's finest work. The water running down the thermal river and forming into 2 waterfalls is always 37⁰C warm giving you a chance to dip in, even in the freezing weather of December! Ok, so maybe getting out of the warm water and into the cold wasn't as pleasant as it sounds!

The Thermal Bath facilities of Pozar include 48 individual baths, 6 indoor pools, an outdoor pool, hammams, jacuzzi and spa services. The hot springs water is believed to be beneficiary for your health when bathing and drinking it. Although i would not recommend the latter!
Want to engage yourself in other activities? Follow the nature trails in the forest and discover the hidden prehistoric caves. And if you're visiting during the winter make sure to visit the Kaimaktsalan ski resort.

P.S: Don't forget your bathing suit!!
Hope you all have a great month full of love and travels!xx

The Jet Lag Situation

Resetting you watch when having a 14 hour flight ahead is easy, resetting your brain is the tricky part.  When flying across time zones our bodies take time to adjust.  If after a long flight you’re experiencing insomnia at night, sleepiness during the day, difficulty concentrating, hunger or lack of appetite, THEN my dear traveler you are dealing with a jet lag (!!)

Fortunately you’re not the only one! Here are some basic tips that will prevent or aid jet lag and will soon make you a pro!

BEFORE YOUR FLIGHT
Step 1 : Start adjusting to the time zone
About a week before you’re departure, start adjusting your sleeping and eating times, an hour ahead or behind, considering your destination.

Step 2 : Prefer Overnight flights
This will allow you to sleep through your flight better and arrive at your destination in the morning or afternoon. If on the other hand you leave at daylight and arrive night time at your destination try to avoid sleeping!

Step 3 : Consider taking the sleeping or travel ease pill.
Preferably ask a doctor if any of these pills are right for you before taking them.

WHILE ON BOARD
Step 1: Set your watch at your destination time
This will mentally prepare you for your new time zone.

Step 2 : Stay hydrated
Now this may not sound important but it is! Before your flight and every hour while on air drink plenty of water. Dehydration is one of the symptoms of jet lag and the dry cabin air does not help. If you are wearing contact lenses consider removing them or use eye drops.

Step 3 : Try to avoid alcohol on air
Due to the dry cabin air, alcohol and caffeine drinks will dry you out and therefore worsen your symptoms
.
Step 4 : Eat lightly
Since airplane food is served considering the time zone you’re leaving with, try eating light snacks until you arrive. Then have a proper meal at the right mealtimes.

 AT YOUR DESTINATION
Step 1 : Stay as much as you can in the sun
If it’s daytime at your destination try to expose yourself to as much sunlight you can. This will help you adjust easily to your new time zone.

Step 2 : Take power naps if you have to
If you’re feeling too tired it’s ok to sleep for 30 minutes or so. Try not to sleep any longer or you’ll find yourself wide awake at 4am.

So here they are, 9 steps that will help you with your jet lag situation. Does anyone have any other tips to add??

Florence: A Love Affair

Il Duomo di Firenze

The Ponte Vecchio

Ponte Vecchio Bridge Shops
Boboli Gardens

Giardini di Boboli

Ferrari Cavalcade

Italy is bound to be on everyone's destination list. After visiting it for the first time, Florence, was one of the cities i  definitely had to see.  Having heard all about how beautiful this city is, i must it did not let me down.

Being the most popular city in Tuscany, Florence or Firenze, attracts millions of tourists each year. The city is famous for its history, culture and arts, but you have to be no expert nor have a trained eye to fully appreciate it's beauty. The city center is very easy to access and nearly all the sights are within walking distance. Having only a few hours before leaving, we definitely made the most of our time. Arriving by train from Bologna, we grabbed the first map that came in sight and began experiencing the city first hand.

First stop of the tour is the majestic Cathedral of Santa Maria de Fiore (The Duomo), and believe me you couldn't miss it if you tried! You will stand  in awe as you sink in the beautiful  Duomo which looks like a piece of art and is the city's  most recognizable icon. Not so far down is the famous Piazza della Signoria, a square full of cafes and restaurants. Wandering down the alleys you finally reach the Ponte Vecchio. Florence's first bridge now full of little shops and buzzing with tourists. And this would be the point where you start thinking about moving here for life!
Want to reassure yourself that this place is heaven on earth?! Just cross the bridge to Giardino di Boboli, a huge park full of fountains and breathtaking gardens. And like all this wasn't enough, we were lucky enough to experience the Ferrari Cavalcade 2013. A parade of Ferrari's counting back to the very first models to the latest!

Having spent only 6 hours walking and wandering around the city, i can confess i am truly in love with it. Florence, it may have been  brief, but we are definitely meeting again! x

Meteora: Day Trip

Long road ahead!

A rest in between!
At the TOP!

This View
View from the top

So since i'm currently studying in Greece, it would be a shame to all fellow travelers, not to show off the amazing places this country has to offer. And trust me, it has a lot to offer. This week a group of us gathered and decided to visit Meteora. A place which it's name literally means ''in the middle of the sky''. The huge rock pillars you see are actually home to six monasteries built on the top of the rocks which makes this place even more picturesque than it already is. A place full of culture, mystery, cliffs, (and what else rock climbing!!). So if ever near Kalambaka city of Trikala , put on your hiking boots, and be prepared to be amazed! x
